Working on a Limited Space

After the Pajero with a large room for modification, this time we try to install the LED modules on a 1/12 motorbike with limited free space. The modification was done before the production, so the samples used were still the engineer samples.

Scale model : 1/12 Kawasaki GPZ900R Ninja

LED module : LM-54W (White) x 1

: LM-54Y (Yellow) x 2

01 Head light

Drill a 1.5-mm hole in the headlight casing and paint the chrome color. Insert the 1.5 mm light guide.

Without building the holding box, drill a 1.5 mm hole at the back of the head light, and insert the LED directly into the hole.

Find a place to store the module body inside the chassis. Bear in mind that the module body should be in an upright position. Organize the extension wire to pass through the interior parts of the motorcycle.

02 Tail lights

Drill a 2 mm hole at the back panel of the tail light and place two LED modules. Fix the position of the extension wire with superglue.

Test the results of bare yellow LED modules. Spray paint the tail light cover with a semi-transparent red color.

Place the module bodies under the seat and organize the extension wire.

 03 Summary

1/12 motorbike is slim and full of interiors, which makes it difficult to find enough space to store the module bodies. Wiring the extension wires should be considered before assembly too.

Instead of using a pocket to hold the LED in place, we use the original plastic part and drill a hole to store the LED. I would recommend further fixing the extension wire with superglue to firmly hold the LED in place.

Using the yellow LED modules on the tail lights and spray painting them a semi-transparent red color precisely simulated the real outlook of a motorcycle.

I hope this demo will help and give you some inspiration. There are no fixed rules for installing the LED module. Creativity is always the key. Have fun and happy modeling!
