This time I tried to install lights on a Skyline GT-R using some new methods.
Scale model : 1/24 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34
LED module : LM-54W (White) x 10
: LM-54B (Blue) x 1
01 Interior
Thinning the back side of the dash board and display so light can pass through
Masking the dash board and display. Paint the interior black
Install a blue LED module for the display
Install 2 LED for the dash board and place the original decal
Place all 3 inductor bodies in the engine compartment
02 Tail lights
Drill 2 1.8mm holes and build a pocket to hold 2 white LED modules in place
Testing the effect of a white LED on a red semi-transparent cover failed. The outcome looks so weird. I should use a red LED instead.
Paint the pocket black to avoid light leakage. Place 4 inductor bodies in the trunk.
03 Headlights
Assemble 2 white LED modules, the same as the tail lights. The masking tape and plastic sheet are for supporting purposes, especially during blending the extension wire
Original chrome parts gives good reflections.
Put all 4 inductor bodies in engine compartment
04 Summary
This kit comes with white plastic, so the dashboard installation becomes easier. I am not sure what will happen if it is another color. Maybe I will test it next time. I didn't use the light guides this time; using the bare LED gives maximum brightness. Together with the chrome reflection, the outcome of the headlight is quite satisfactory.
I hope this demo will help and give you some inspiration. There are no fixed rules for installing the LED module. Creativity is always the key. Have fun and happy modeling!
